Sunil Gavaskar also wants Washington Sundar to play a part in the ENG vs IND series.
Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has urged the Indian Cricket Team to include Kuldeep Yadav in the playing XI for the second game of the five-match test series against the England Cricket Team. He said that the wrist spinner should be there on the side in place of Shardul Thakur.
The Indian Cricket Team , despite having a good outing with their top-order in both innings in the first test, faced a disappointing five-wicket loss in the opening game at Headingley in Leeds.
It’s fair to say that bowlers let India down in the first game. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, no other could make a bigger impact as England batters had a terrific outing with the bat. Even after posting 471 runs and 364 runs in two innings, India couldn’t do much with the ball that could win them the game.
Going into the second test at Edgbaston in Birmingham, the Indian team management would be aware of the fact that they need some support for Jasprit Bumrah, who picked a fifer in the first innings in Leeds. Hence, they would be keen to make some changes.
I think Kuldeep Yadav has to come into the team – Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar, who is one of the commentators during the ongoing ENG vs IND series, said that Shardul Thakur should be rested and Kuldeep Yadav should be in the team for the match. Speaking after the game on Sony Six, he said:
“Whether Jasprit Bumrah is fit or not, I think Kuldeep Yadav has to come into the team. I do believe that he should come into the team for Shardul Thakur because the Birmingham pitch will be one where there will be just a little bit of help for the wrist spinner.”
Sunil Gavaskar added that India should also look to add Washington Sundar in the XI if Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair fail in the second match.
“If things don’t go well in the second test, maybe Sai (Sudharsan) and Karun (Nair). I don’t want to drop them at the moment. Then I’d also look at Washington (Sundar), so that it really gives you a more solid batting, and also gets a little more variety as far as the bowling is concerned,” he concluded.
