Former Indian Legend Sunil Gavaskar's advice to bring West Indies Cricket back on track.

The West Indies were a legendary team in the early 1970s and 1990s. They were known as the world beaters who dominated the game of cricket in both ODIs and Tests. But unfortunately, the modern-day team has lacked the qualities and skills that can make them a challenging opponent. After getting knocked out of ODI World Cup contention, the West Indies also lost the first test in a one-sided affair against Team India in Dominica.

It has certainly raised eyebrows among many as to whether this West Indian team is capable of competing with other teams or not. The winner of the first two World Cups, in 1975 and 1979, will not be part of the upcoming World Cup in India. This will be the first time that they will miss a World Cup event since their debut in the game.

Gavaskar feels it's time for the West Indies Cricket Board to take some hard steps

Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar, who faced the West Indies when they were at their prime, reacted to their downfall in modern-day cricket. Gavaskar, who made his debut against the West Indies, said that the West Indies cricket board needs to do something big after the team has suffered from consistent failures across formats. In an interview with the Indian Express, Gavaskar made a bold statement and said that the board should stop giving free money to players who are not performing.

He also said that the WICB should increase the fee for the test players so that more and more players can take this format. Gavaskar said, "If you know the West Indian temperament and you have that much in the bank before you score a run or take a wicket, I am not too sure about a lot of them if it actually matters whether they score runs or not. Because the money is in the bank. My suggestion would be to increase the Test match fees but don’t give them central contracts."

Many former cricketers, cricket pundits, and fans have raised concerns over the downfall of West Indian cricket. Notably, West Indian players are in high demand when it comes to T20 leagues across the world. Many big superstars are playing in different leagues around the world. Sunil Gavaskar concluded by saying, "You are paid for your performance. Then probably they will have a different attitude." The second test will start on July 20 between West Indies and India in Port of Spain.
