Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) won their maiden IPL title in the 2016 edition.
Two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will take on the dominant Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the much-awaited grand finale of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The high-voltage clash will be played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, May 26.
The Hyderabad based franchise had roped in Australian test and ODI skipper Pat Cummins for whopping INR 20.50 crores during the mini-auction. Hyderabad named Cummins as the new skipper for the season, replacing Aiden Markram. This move struck gold for the franchise as Cummins has taken the side to an IPL final after six years.
In the league stage of this season, the Hyderabad batters played an aggressive brand of cricket and broke the record of the highest IPL total twice. Out of 14 matches, they emerged victorious in nine games. They finished at the second position in the points table with 17 points.
During the league phase, they had a close battle with the Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata in third match of the season. Hyderabad lost that thrilling clash against KKR by only four runs at Eden Gardens.
Then, the both sides again met in the Qualifier 1 on May 21 in Ahmedabad, where Kolkata hammered Hyderabad by eight wickets and earned a direct qualification for the grand finale. However, SRH bounced back by crushing Rajasthan Royals by 36 runs in Qualifier 2 in Chennai on May 26 and entered the final.

The Hyderabad-based franchise has played in two IPL finals till now. Under the leadership of David Warner, SRH won their maiden title in 2016. In the 2018 season, however, the Kane Williamson-led Hyderabad suffered a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of CSK in the final, and they ended up as runners-up.

SRH to face KKR third time in the ongoing edition
The IPL 2024 final promises to be a thrilling clash, given how KKR and SRH have performed throughout the tournament. It will also be a battle of the two most expensive players in the history of the cash-rich league. Australian teammates Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, who were sold for more than INR 20 crores each at the mini-auction, will go up against each other.
The consistent KKR will look to add a third IPL title to their name, while the ultra-aggressive SRH will look to win their second IPL championship.
