Suryakumar Yadav revealed that Shreyas Iyer will be monitored for the next few days.

India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has provided a massive update on Shreyas Iyer’s health following the latter’s injury during the third ODI between Australian Cricket Team and Indian Cricket Team. The right-handed batter was injured while attempting Alex Carey’s catch during the encounter, which took place at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney on Saturday, October 25.

While taking the catch, Iyer fell on the ground awkwardly and was seen in pain. As a result, he left the field with the team physio and did not return to the field later. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) later revealed in an official statement that Iyer sustained an injury to his left rib cage and was taken to the hospital for further treatment.

While the injury seemed to be a minor one at the start, the tests later revealed a serious injury with a laceration of the spleen and the batter was kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Speaking ahead of the first T20I between Australia and India, Suryakumar gave a crucial update on Iyer. The 35-year-old revealed that Iyer is stable and will be monitored for the next few days.

“When I got to know about his injury, I called our physio Kamlesh Jain to get the update. Iyer has been replying on phone now which means he is stable. Doctors are there with him, he’s speaking with people too, so it’s looking good. He will be monitored for the next few days,” he said.

“It is unfortunate what happened and these cases are very rare. But rare things happen to rare talent like Shreyas Iyer. By god’s grace, everything is fine,” Yadav added.

Notably, a family friend of Iyer and his close friends are with him at the hospital in Sydney. He has been advised to stay at the hospital and will return to India at least after a week. According to reports, Iyer might take up to three months to recover from his injury. However, his condition is improving, but he currently remains under close observation.
