IPL 2025: Suryakumar Yadav breaks Shubman Gill's big record during PBKS vs MI clash

Suryakumar Yadav is the leading run-scorer for MI in IPL 2025.

Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are locking horns in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Monday. May 26. The venue of the PBKS vs MI clash is the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. During the match, MI batsman Suryakumar Yadav captured a unique batting record in the IPL.

PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. Notably, this is the last match of both sides in the league stage of IPL 2025. The winner of the match will grab the top spot in the points table and directly play in Qualifier 1.

MI openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma could not go big and got out for 27 and 24, respectively. Tilak Verma also lost his wicket on 1 run. Suryakumar Yadav, who came in to bat at three, aims to come up with another good show in the match. He won the Player of the match award in the last match and played a crucial role in MI’s victory.

Suryakumar Yadav breaks Shubman Gill’s record of most 25+ scores

As Yadav crossed 25 runs, he broke the old record of Shubman Gill in the IPL. Yadav has surpassed Gill for the most 25+ scores in a single edition of the IPL. Notably, Gill registered 13 25-plus scores in IPL 2023. Kane Williamson also scored an equal number of 25-plus scores in IPL 2018. However, Yadav has surpassed both of them and now has 14 25+ knocks in IPL 2025.

Yadav has shown a marvellous form in IPL 2025. He is the leading run-scorer for MI. He has scored more than 600 runs in the season at an outstanding average of 72.88. He also owns a stunning strike rate of over 170 and has slammed five half-centuries in the tournament.

Meanwhile, MI have qualified for the playoffs in IPL 2025. They have won eight games and lost five out of 13 encounters. With 16 points, they grab the fourth spot in the points table. They can capture the top spot by defeating PBKS in the ongoing game. PBKS occupy the second spot in the points table with 17 points.
