Suryakumar Yadav will captain India for the first time in a multi-nation competition.
When questioned about the difficulties of captaining in a multi-nation competition as opposed to a bilateral series, India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav responded with his trademark witty remark.
In his first significant assignment since replacing Rohit Sharma following the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, the star batsman is ready to captain India.
As India’s permanent T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav has a fantastic record, having lost just two of his 15 games thus far. He began his reign by defeating Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in back-to-back straight series before defeating South Africa 3-1 on the road.
In Asia Cup 2025, Suryakumar Yadav will get the opportunity to lead the team in a multi-nation competition, as the huge ICC T20 World Cup 2026 approaches.
“Everything is going alright”—Suryakumar Yadav to a reporter on changes in India’s playing combination

Suryakumar Yadav emphasised that there is no need to alter a winning recipe and that he anticipates the procedures used in the bilateral run will be successful in the prestigious competitions as well.
“Till now everything is going alright, sir, toh kyu bina matlab ka ungli karna hai? (Why unnecessarily muddle?) We will continue to do and follow the same things we have done in all of the bilaterals so far. If some things are working, that means we are moving in the right direction,” Suryakumar Yadav said during the captains’ press conference ahead of the Asia Cup 2025.
He also expressed surprise at being termed the runaway favourites for the tournament.
“Who told you this? I did not hear this. Yes, we are playing T20 cricket as a team after quite some time, but we were here early,” he added.
The impending Asia Cup 2025 group stage match versus the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be India’s first white-ball clash since the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Final in early March.
