Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav heaped rich praise on his openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill after victory over Pakistan in Super Four match 2 of Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday, September 21. The match took place at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai and saw Indian dominance all over it again.
Both Abhishek and Shubman set the platform for India’s victory as they were chasing 172 runs. The duo etched an impeccable partnership of 105 runs in the first 10 overs, hammering Pakistan bowlers all over the park. While Abhishek slammed 74 runs, Gill got out just before his fifty for 47 runs.
India chased down the target by six wickets to register their fourth consecutive victory in the ongoing tournament. Earlier in the game, Indian skipper Suryakumar won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. Pakistan piled up 171/5 with a quick start by opener Sahibzada Farhan (58), who scored a half-century.

During the post-match presentation, Suryakumar lauded openers Abhishek and Gill for their performance, calling them an ice and fire combination.
“They complement each other really well. It’s like a fire and ice combination,” he said.
“The way the boys are stepping up in every game, it’s making my job very easy. The boys showed a lot of character. They were calm after the first 10 overs. After drinks, I told them the game starts now. That’s fine, he’s (Jasprit Bumrah) not a robot, he will have a bad day someday. Dube bailed us out of the situation,” he added.
Abhishek won Player of the Match award for his match-winning fifty in the encounter and has also become the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 173 runs. Following victory against Pakistan, India have moved to the top spot in the Super Four points table with two points and Net Run Rate of +0.689.
India will take on Bangladesh in their next match of Super Four round. The encounter will be played on September 24 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.
