Suryakumar Yadav led Mumbai Indians in three games during the IPL 2026.
The Indian Cricket Team won the last ICC event during the T20 World Cup 2026 held at home. They were successful under Suryakumar Yadav, who was later stripped of his captaincy. The last match Suryakumar played was the final against New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium.
The BCCI removed him from captaincy and made Shreyas Iyer the new captain in the T20I format ahead of India’s UK tour. Suryakumar was consistently struggling with the bat, which was the key reason behind his exit from the team.
Not just at the international level, the former T20I captain also looked below-par during the IPL 2026 for the Mumbai Indians. Once considered a run machine for the franchise, Suryakumar ended the season with 270 runs in 13 matches, a poor average of 20.77.
Notably, he led MI in three matches when Hardik Pandya wasn’t available due to back spasms and illness. The franchise didn’t do well either and finished the tournament at ninth place with only four wins in 14 games.
