Sanju Samson has been amongst India’s best batters in the T20Is since last year.

Indian Cricket Team skipper Suryakumar Yadav gave a hilarious response when he was asked about Sanju Samson’s place in the XI for Asia Cup 2025. The tournament is all set to begin on Tuesday (9th September) with Afghanistan taking on Hong Kong in the opener in Abu Dhabi.

The Indian side will be opening their campaign with the game against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. The match will be played on 10th September and one of the major topics of discussion ahead of the game has been the Indian combination.

All the Indian players in the squad have done an incredible job. Whosoever misses the game will be unlucky. From what can be speculated from the practice sessions, there is a belief that Sanju Samson is unlikely to make it into the XI, especially with Shubman Gill being there, too, as a vice-captain.

There is a chance that Jitesh Sharma might keep the wickets for India, as he is better suited to bat in the lower order as compared to Sanju Samson, who has scored a lot of runs while opening. Notably, Samson slammed three tons last year while opening.

When asked if Sanju Samson would be part of the XI for the game against the UAE or not, Suryakumar Yadav hilariously told the reporter that he would message the XI to him. However, he was quick to mention that they will make the right decision.

“Sir, I shall message you the playing XI. But yes, we are really taking good care of him and don’t worry, we shall make the right decision.”

It is expected that Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma will open the innings for India in the Asia Cup 2025. Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav are expected to bat at three and four, while Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel are likely to be the two all-rounders.

Either Sanju Samson or Jitesh Sharma will be the keeper, while Varun Chakravarthy will be the specialist spinner. Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah are expected to be the frontline pacers.
