"God is great..." Suryakumar Yadav reacts for the first time after being appointed as India's T20I captain

Suryakumar Yadav will lead India in the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka.

On July 18, the Indian selection committee announced the Indian squads for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka. Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as the new T20I captain after Rohit Sharma’s retirement, and he will be leading the team in the shortest format going forward.

This decision came as a shock to many fans, who were expecting Hardik Pandya to become the new T20I captain. But, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shown trust in the star batter and made him the captain. He has led India in a couple of series, but now he will do it on a permanent basis in T20Is.

Suryakumar Yadav got the backing of the management, new head coach Gautam Gambhir, and senior players. Hence, after getting the responsibility, the 34-year-old thanked everyone for the opportunity. He posted a message on Instagram and shared his feelings after getting T20I captaincy. He expressed his gratitude through his heartfelt post.

Suryakumar Yadav wrote, “Thank you so much for outpouring love, support, and best wishes from you. Last few weeks have been nothing short of a dream and I am truly grateful. Playing for the country is the most special feeling that I will never be able to describe in words. This new role brings with it, a lot of responsibility, excitement and enthusiasm. I hope to keep receiving your support and blessings. “All fame reaches God; God is great.”

Meanwhile, Hardik has been sacked from the leadership role of Indian team. He wasn’t even considered for vice-captaincy as Shubman Gill was named Suryakumar’s deputy. The decision of the T20I captaincy looks to be influenced by Gambhir’s appointment as head coach, as the former Indian opener has always been vocal about Suryakumar Yadav.

He was the captain of Kolkata Knight Rider when Surya used to play for them between 2014 and 2017. Meanwhile, Hardik has taken a break from ODIs, and Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant are back in the 50-over team, where Rohit will be leading the side.
