Suryakumar Yadav said he would like to ask AB de Villiers how he balanced playing both ODI and T20I formats.
Indian Cricket Team T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has sought AB de Villiers’ advice to excel in his ODI career. The right-handed batsman said that he is keen to know how the former South Africa captain balanced his performance in both ODI and T20I cricket.
Yadav, who was appointed as India’s T20I captain last year, owns a wonderful record in the shortest format, with over 2700 runs across 93 games, averaging 36.94. Owning a marvellous strike rate of 164.20, he has also hammered four centuries.
However, he has struggled to make a mark in the 50-over format, with 773 runs at an average of 25.76 across 37 games. His last ODI appearance came in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Since then, he has been a regular member of the T20I side but has been overlooked for ODIs.
I would like to ask AB de Villiers how he managed to balance his T20I and ODI game: Suryakumar Yadav

During a conversation with Vimal Kumar on YouTube, the 35-year-old said that he is eager to meet De Villiers and get his advice to balance his performance in white-ball formats. He also added that he is keen to represent the national side in ODI cricket in future.
“If I meet him soon, then I will like to ask him how he managed to balance his T20I and ODI game. I haven’t been able to do so. I thought ODIs should be played like T20Is,” he said.
“I want to ask him what he did to be successful in both the formats. AB, if you are listening to this, please get in touch with me quickly because there are important three-four years lying ahead for me. I’m very keen on playing ODI cricket also. Please help me! I couldn’t balance T20Is and ODIs,” he added.
De Villiers, one of the batting legends of South Africa, played 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is in his career. He held an average of 53.50 in the 50-over formats, including 53 fifties and 25 tons. At a strike rate of over 135, he amassed 1672 runs in the shortest format, including 10 fifties.
Meanwhile, Yadav is currently captaining the Men in Blue in the T20I series against Australia. The five-match series is tied 1-1 after three games.
