T Dilip came under scanner after India’s poor outing in the field during the UK & Zimbabwe tour.

India’s support staff is all set for a change ahead of a crucial international season. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly been reviewing the team’s overall performances following a series of poor assignments across formats, with attention also turning to the coaching setup.

One of the biggest worries for India has been the team’s fielding performance in the past few months. Their inability to complete catches, failed run-outs, and fielding inconsistencies has drawn criticism from ex-international cricketers and even from their fans. It is known that raising fielding standards is on the board’s agenda moving forward.

Given the upcoming crucial bilateral series and the ICC tournaments on the horizon, BCCI has decided to make a major change to the support staff.

According to senior journalist Nitin K Srivastav, Subhadeep Ghosh will be Team India’s new fielding coach. According to the report, T Dilip’s contract was not renewed by the BCCI following the review of the subpar Indian fielding performances.

Reports say that this change is a step in the board’s efforts to update the fielding standards of the team before a busy international schedule. The official word from the BCCI is still awaited.

Dilip joined the support staff as India’s fielding coach in late 2021, and from then on he was associated with the coaching team across all formats. During his time with the team, India reached the final of the ODI World Cup in 2023 and also won the Champions Trophy in 2025, apart from winning the T20 World Cup in 2024 and 2026. Dilip introduced the post-match medal distribution after every match, which became something of a regular feature in the dressing room.

On the contrary, the fielding standards of the Indian Cricket Team have been criticised in the past several months. The players faced problems with catching and ground fielding too many times. It made the BCCI rethink the work of the staff on which it relies to prepare for upcoming international matches.

Coming to Ghosh, he has already worked within the structure of Indian cricket. He is believed to be one of the talented fielding coaches in the domestic circuit.

Why is India changing its fielding coach?

The reported move is aimed at improving India’s fielding standards ahead of a crucial international season.
