Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan are travelling alongside Indian team as reserves for ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The Indian cricket team are all set to play their last group stage match against Canada at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, Florida, on June 15 in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Men in Blue have won all three matches till now against Ireland, arch-rivals Pakistan, and co-hosts the United States of America. Indian side is ranked first with six points and NRR of +1.137 in the Group A standings.

However, ahead of their last match against Canada, a new report has emerged that star players Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan might be released from the camp after the end of group stage fixtures.

Gill and Avesh are set to return after group stages

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had named four players as the traveling team, which included Shubman, Avesh, Rinku Singh, and Khaleel Ahmed.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, both Gill and Avesh have flown to Florida with the Indian squad from New York by a chartered flight on Wednesday. The report further added that both were only part of the United States leg unless there were unexpected injuries to the players.

The report claimed that the duo of Shubman and Avesh might be asked to stay in case a regular member of the Men in Blue squad gets injured ahead of their match against Canada.

It is also understood that with Virat Kohli opening the innings and Yashasvi Jaiswal as the backup opener, the think tank might not need any backup openers as of now, which is why Gill is returning.

For Avesh, the Indian management might not need any extra pacers because the team may rely more on spinners during the Super Eight stage in the West Indies. Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed to stay with the Indian squad.
