ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Irfan Pathan takes brutal dig at Babar Azam for his 43-ball 44 against USA

Babar Azam overtook Virat Kohli to become the highest run-getter in T20Is.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam was on target of Irfan Pathan, the former India cricketer, thanks to his poor knock in the Pakistan vs United States of America (USA) match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

USA captain Monank Patel won the toss and chose to bowl first. Mohammad Rizwan (9), Usman Khan (3), Fakhar Zaman (11), and Azam Khan (0) battled against American spinners and pacers.

Babar Azam anchored one end and, along with Shadab Khan (40 off 25 balls), helped Pakistan come back into the game. They scored 72 runs for the fourth wicket before Shadab went. Babar Azam persisted, but Jasdeep Singh dismissed him after 43 balls and 44 runs, including three fours and two sixes.

Pakistan eventually concluded with 159/7 after 20 overs. For the USA, Nosthush Kenjige picked 3/30.

‘Not helping your team’s cause’- Irfan Pathan’s dig at Babar Azam

USA bowlers did well at the start and Babar Azam had to witness quick wickets at the other end and decided to drop anchor. Babar Azam and Shadab Khan played with caution and put the struggling Pakistani side back in the game.

However, in the 16th over, when it was time for Babar Azam to make full use of the opponent’s bowling as he had gauzed the pitch and conditions well, the Pakistan captain fell for 43-ball 44 at a strike rate of 102.32. He played 19 dot balls while hitting two sixes and three fours.

Following his dismissal, Pathan, in his post on X (formerly Twitter), opined his knock didn’t help to the team cause.

Meanwhile, during this knock of 44 runs, Babar Azam overtook Virat Kohli and became the highest run-getter in T20Is. Before this match, Kohli had 4038 runs from 118 matches.

However, Babar’s consistent 44-run knock moved his total over Kohli’s, marking a watershed moment in his storied career.

This brings the Pakistan captain’s total to 4067 runs. This incredible feat demonstrates Babar’s consistency and brilliance, cementing his status as one of modern cricket’s top batsmen.
