ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Will Pakistan get eliminated if USA vs IRE gets washed out due to rain?

Pakistan are currently placed third in the Group A standings of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The Babar Azam-led Pakistan suffered couple of shock defeats at the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 before they recovered to win against Canada to just stay alive in the race to the Super 8 round.

Currently, the Men in Green are placed third in the Group A standings with two points and NRR of +0.191. They are left with just one game, against Ireland. A loss or even a washout will eliminate them from the T20 World Cup 2024.

Meanwhile, the United States of America are having an impressive T20 World Cup 2024 campaign. Under the leadership of Monank Patel, the USA won two games against Canada and Pakistan before losing to India. Their last group fixture is against Ireland. A win or even a washout will propel them in the Super Eight stage of the ongoing tournament.

Ahead of the United States vs Ireland clash, a state of emergency has been declared in Fort Lauderdale due to the ‘life-threatening’ floods in Florida. Hundreds of flights bound for and from South Florida airports have been stationed by the local authorities. 

It is to be noted that Fort Lauderdale is one of three venues in the United States to host the T20 World Cup 2024.

It will host three important clashes: Ireland vs USA on June 14, India vs Canada match on June 15 and Pakistan vs Ireland on June 16. Earlier, the match between Sri Lanka and Nepal was also abandoned due to rain on June 11.

Will Pakistan get eliminated if the USA vs IRE match washes out due to rain?

Yes. If USA manage to beat Ireland or if the match gets washed out, they will qualify for the the Super Eight round and Pakistan will be eliminated.

A washed-out match between the USA and Ireland will see both sides take one point each. Then, the co-hosts will reach five points in the Group A standings, while the maximum that Babar Azam-led team can reach is four points.
