Since last week, T20 World Cup 2026 has been entertaining cricket fans all around the world. A total of 20 teams are battling for the title in the tournament, which is being hosted in Sri Lanka and India.
All the teams of T20 World Cup 2026 are divided into four groups (A, B, C, and D) of five teams each and will play one game against each other in the league stage, meaning that each team will play four matches.
After the league stage, the top two teams from each group, based on points and Net Run Rate (NRR), will qualify for the Super 8 Round. The competition for a place in Super 8 is intense in each group. So far, only Oman, Nepal, and Namibia have been eliminated from the next round of the ICC tournament.
Three teams have also qualified for the Super 8 round. On that note, below are the top two teams from each group that are favourites to qualify for Super Eight Round in T20 World Cup 2026.
Which teams are favourites to move into Super 8 round in T20 World Cup 2026?
Group A
In Group A, India have qualified for the playoffs after crushing Pakistan in their third game. They have won three games in a row. USA take the second spot with four points, while Pakistan are next with an equal number of points.
However, while USA have played all of their matches, the Men-in-Green have one game left. Since the clash is against Namibia, Pakistan are highly likely to win the encounter and have more chances of qualifying for the next round.
However, an upset in PAK vs NAM clash will allow USA to move into the second round, but it is very unlikely due to Namibia’s poor form in the tournament so far.
Group B
In Group B, Oman are eliminated from proceeding to the next round. Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe grab the top two spots with four points each, followed by Australia and Ireland with two points each. Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe have a better chance of qualifying for the next round.
However, Australia too have a chance if they win their next two games. However, the result of Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe match will also impact their progress.
Group C
In Group C, West Indies have qualified for the Super 8 round with three straight victories. England, with two wins in three matches, are the other team with better chances to qualify.
With one win and one defeat in two matches and two games left, Italy also have a good chance. However, they are unlikely to win their next games against strong teams like England and West Indies. Nepal have been eliminated.
Group D
In Group D, only South Africa have qualified for the Super 8 round with three victories in an equal number of games.
New Zealand are the other team with the best chance to progress to the next round. Although UAE, Afghanistan, and Canada are not eliminated so far, they have a very less chance to move to the Super 8 round.
