22-year-old rising star likely to be included in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad - Reports

India likely to pick Rajasthan Royals power hitter for T20 World Cup 2024 after impressive performances in this year’s IPL.

The 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) has reached the halfway point of the group phase. Teams are fighting for the playoffs. IPL 2024 will conclude on May 26. This tournament is the basis for the Indian selection committee to pick the squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Hence, the selection committee is noticing all the performances very closely and has a set of players to choose from. However, almost all the Indian players are doing well, which has certainly increased the headache for the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee. Meanwhile, there are some other names that have forced selectors to look at them.

Riyan Parag and Shivam Dube are in radar for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024

As per some media reports, it has been learned that India are not looking to experiment with the T20 World Cup 2024 squad, but there will be a few inclusions. A few players who have done well in the IPL 2024 will be rewarded and might make the squad. After looking at the current tournament, a few names come up and Riyan Parag and Shivam Dube are the front-runners in this race. Parag has certainly shown his 2.0 version in IPL 2024.

The Rajasthan Royals star is currently the second-highest scorer and has scored 318 runs at an average and strike rate of 63.60 and 161.42 respectively. He has played a number of match-winning knocks, which have turned games in RR’s favour. Parag has come out as a mature batter and can be a backup middle-order batter. On the other hand, Dube is the leading scorer for the Chennai Super Kings.

He has scored 242 runs at a strike rate of 163.51. The southpaw is destructive against spinners, but he has improved against pacers as well. Dube can provide an attacking option for India in the middle overs. He can be the finisher India are looking for, along with Rinku Singh. Though he hasn’t bowled this season because of the Impact Player rule, he can be a useful option on slow pitches in West Indies and the USA. If everything goes well, we might see these two make an appearance at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024
