Taijul Islam achieved the feat during the second test between Bangladesh and Ireland.

Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam achieved a memorable feat in his kitty on Saturday, November 22, becoming the highest wicket-taker for the team in test cricket. He achieved the record in the ongoing second test against Ireland Cricket Team at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first in the encounter and were bowled out for 476 runs in the first innings. Then with the ball, Taijul Islam clinched a four-wicket haul in the first innings, helping the team to bowl out Ireland for 265 runs. He picked four wickets for 76 runs across his 35.3 overs.

In the second innings, he dismissed Ireland opener Andrew Balbirnie to provide the first breakthrough to his team. With his wicket, he also became the leading wicket-taker for Bangladesh, overtaking Shakib Al Hasan in the list.

Hasan, who announced his retirement from test cricket in October 2024, clinched 246 wickets in his career. Mehidy Hasan holds the third spot with 209 wickets. These three are the only Bangladesh bowlers to have more than 200 test wickets in their kitty.

Islam has picked 249* wickets in 57 tests so far, while Hasan reached the mark of 246 scalps in 71 tests. Below are the top five highest wicket-takers for Bangladesh in test cricket.
