Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal missed the Asia Cup and ICC Cricket World Cup in 2023.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is not able to come out of the Tamim Iqbal controversy. Bangladesh opening batter Tamim has requested the BCB to exclude him from the central contract for the upcoming cycle. Tamim has not been a part of the Bangladesh squad after the three-match ODI series against New Zealand played in September 2023.

Opener Tamim Iqbal also missed the Asia Cup 2023 due to an injury and was excluded from the World Cup 2023 following a massive controversy around him and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan. Bangladesh Cricket operations committee chairman Jalal Yunus informed the press about Tamim’s request at Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium in Mirupur.

Tamim to meet Nazmul Hasan again

Jalal Yunus also informed that Tamim Iqbal will be soon meeting with Bangladesh Cricket Board chairman Nazmul Hasan. Yunus said, “He has his own plan and he has requested not to include him now in the new central contract. He is supposed to meet with our board president after national election and only after that he will finalise his future plan.”

The BCB President Nazmul Hasan Papon met Tamim Iqbal a few weeks ago, this was his first meeting with the Bangladesh opener who skipped the World Cup 2023 citing injury concerns. Tamim informed him about several internal matters related to the Bangladesh side. BCB will be taking a final call on the matter after listening to all parties inside the camp.

Earlier a few news reports came in where it was said that Tamim Iqbal will be taking a final call on his career in January. Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan openly criticised Tamim Iqbal for leaving captaincy and leaving the handing in trouble ahead of big tournaments. Bangladesh had a poor World Cup 2023 campaign and suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Netherlands by 87 runs at Eden Gardens.
