India have won most consecutive home series in test cricket.

A series win in test cricket is always a big achievement for any team because test cricket is certainly the biggest showdown in this sport. Teams have often dominated in their own conditions, but still, winning series after series at home is not a cup of tea for everyone.

Only three times a team has won 10 or more consecutive home series in test cricket. Australia have done it twice, while India have done it once. This article will be about such dominance at home. Here we will talk about the top five teams with the most consecutive series wins at home in test cricket.

Here are the top five teams with most consecutive home series wins in test cricket:

5. New Zealand – 8 series wins (2017-2021):

New Zealand has been a tough place to play test cricket because the conditions there are pretty different. That makes it tough for touring teams to win here. New Zealand have beaten every team in their history, but their longest streak was between 2017 and 2021, when they won eight consecutive test series at home. That was the reason that they made it to the final of the WTC 2021 and won the title.

New Zealand’s home series wins from 1st December, 2017 to 3rd January, 2021:

  • 2-0 win vs West Indies – 2017/18
  • 1-0 win vs England – 2017/18
  • 1-0 win vs Sri Lanka – 2018/19
  • 2-0 win vs Bangladesh – 2018/19
  • 1-0 win vs England – 2019/20
  • 2-0 win vs India – 2019/20
  • 2-0 win vs West Indies – 2020/21
  • 2-0 win vs Pakistan – 2020/21

4. West Indies – 8 series wins (1976-1986):

West Indies were the team to beat between the early 1970s and the late 1980s. Not only at home, they also won series overseas and dominated all the other teams with some incredible cricketers. That was the time when West Indies created this streak of eight consecutive test series wins at home. These wins came between March 1976 and February 1986 under Clive Llyod’s captaincy, and they went on to win 27 consecutive tests between 1982 and 1984 during that phase.

West Indies’ home series wins from 10th March, 1976 to 11th April, 1986:

  • 2-1 win vs India – 1975/76
  • 2-1 win vs Pakistan – 1976/77
  • 3-1 win vs Australia – 1977/78
  • 2-0 win vs England – 1980/81
  • 2-0 win vs India – 1982/83
  • 3-0 win vs Australia – 1983/84
  • 2-0 win vs New Zealand – 1984/85
  • 5-0 win vs England – 1985/86

3. Australia – 10 series wins (2004-2008):

Drawing a test series in Australia was a massive achievement for teams in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Not many teams have managed to do so on Australian soil. Australia won many series across formats, as they were the world champions at the time. It was the time when they won ten consecutive series between July 2004 and November 2008 under Ricky Ponting’s captaincy. Their streak was ended by South Africa in December 2008 when the visitors won the series 2-1.

Australia’s home series wins from 1st July, 2004 to 28th November, 2008:

  • 1-0 win vs Sri Lanka – 2004
  • 2-0 win vs New Zealand – 2004/05
  • 3-0 win vs Pakistan – 2004/05
  • 1-0 win vs ICC XI – 2005/06
  • 3-0 win vs West Indies – 2005/06
  • 2-0 win vs South Africa – 2005/06
  • 5-0 win vs England – Ashes 2006/07
  • 2-0 win vs Sri Lanka – 2007/08
  • 2-1 win vs India – BGT 2007/08

However, before Ricky Ponting, the record for the ten consecutive test series wins at home was with Steve Waugh. He led Australia to become the best team in the game under his captaincy. In ODIs, they won the 1999 ODI World Cup and dominated test cricket as well. They won all ten series at home between November 1994 and November 2000.

Australia’s home series wins from 25th November 1994 to 2nd January, 2001:

  • 3-1 win vs England – Ashes 1994-95
  • 2-1 win vs Pakistan – 1995/96
  • 3-0 win vs Sri Lanka- 1995/96
  • 3-2 win vs West Indies- 1996/97

Though it is not easy to win in SENA countries, but most teams have probably found it impossible to beat India in India. India has always been a tough place to win for visitors, but since 2010, India have started preparing pitches to assist the local bowlers, which has made the lives of the visiting teams hell. That is the reason they have dominated all the teams that have toured India. The Men in Blue have not lost a test series at home since February 2013, and they have now won 18 consecutive series at home in test cricket. India’s last test series loss at home came against England in 2012.

India’s home series wins from 22nd February, 2013 to 1st October, 2024:

  • 4-0 win vs Australia – BGT 2012/13
  • 2-0 win vs West Indies – 2013/14
  • 3-0 win vs South Africa – 2015/16
  • 3-0 win vs New Zealand – 2016/17
  • 4-0 win vs England – 2016/17
