7 teams at the ongoing World Cup along with Pakistan will qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

There's a lot at stake for the teams at the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, as the top seven sides from the league stage will qualify for Champions Trophy 2025 along with the hosts Pakistan. The ICC had approved it back in 2021.

West Indies, Zimbabwe, Ireland out of the Champions Trophy 2025

It is one of the men's global tournaments that will be held in the 2024–31 cycle. The qualification scenario has come as a surprise to certain boards. We will witness two editions of Champions Trophy in this cycle. The other one will take place in 2029. In the press release, ICC said Champions Trophy would be an eight-team event, and the tournament structure "will follow previous editions with two groups of four: semi-finals and finals."

The qualification rules also mean that West Indies, Zimbabwe, and Ireland won't even get the opportunity to compete for a place as they have not qualified for the ongoing World Cup 2023. Earlier this month, Shakib Al Hasan expressed his desire to play at Champions Trophy 2025. However, as things stand, Bangladesh have been poor in the ongoing World Cup, and they will have to win their remaining games in order to stand a chance to make the cut.

“The 2025 Champions Trophy for ODIs and the 2024 T20 World Cup for T20Is Tests may be sooner. Maybe (after the World Cup). I will retire all at once, but I will stop playing each format one by one. I will announce my retirement after the 2025 Champions Trophy.” Shakib had stated. Bangladesh are currently in the ninth spot in the World Cup 2023 points table, just ahead of England by two points. Apart from Bangladesh, Netherlands and Afghanistan are also fighting for a spot in the ICC event.
