Teams to win most ICC U19 World Cups
India have won most titles in the history of ICC U19 World Cup.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) introduced a multi-national tournament in 1988 that had a competition between the Under-19 (U19) teams from the top cricketing nations. It is known as the ICC U19 World Cup. However, the second edition took place after ten years in 1998. But after that, it is being played once every two years.
The first edition saw eight teams compete against each other, with Australia winning the inaugural season. In the second edition, it became a 16-team tournament. So far, 15 editions have taken place and team India have won the most tournaments. Here we will talk about the teams that have won ICC U19 World Cups most number of times.

7. Bangladesh – 1 (2020) :
Bangladesh made their debut in the ICC U19 World Cup in the second edition in 1998. They have done well over the years and came very close in 2016, when they ended up at third place at home. But their wait ended in 2020, when they defeated India in the final to clinch their maiden ICC U19 title in South Africa and became the third Asian team to win the title.
6. West Indies – 1 (2016) :
West Indies won the first two editions of the ICC Cricket World Cup in 1975 and 1979, but in this tournament, they had to wait for 11 editions to win their maiden ICC U19 World Cup. They came close in 2004 edition but lost the finals to Pakistan. But in 2016, they went on to win the championship defeating India in the finals.
5. South Africa – 1 (2014) :
South Africa didn’t take part in the inaugural edition of the ICC U19 World Cup in 1988 and made entry in the 1998 edition. They finished runners-up in 2002 and 2008 editions, but couldn’t get their hands on the trophy. However, their wait ended in 2014, when the tournament was played in UAE. South Africa defeated Pakistan in the final to win their maiden U19 World Cup title.
4. England – 1 (1998) :
England ended the inaugural season of U19 World Cup in 1988 at the fourth position. But they made a remarkable comeback in the second edition, which took place in South Africa in 1998. Led by Owais Shah, England went on to win the championship and became only the second team to win the tournament. They defeated New Zealand in the final.
3. Pakistan – 2 (2004, 2006) :
Looking at the history of the ICC U19 World Cups, you will find Pakistan to be one of the most consistent teams in history. Though they have only won the tournament twice, their consistency is on another level. Out of 15 editions, Pakistan have finished in the top four ten times. They are also the only team to win the tournament in two consecutive seasons. They won the prestigious ICC U19 World Cup in 2004 and 2006.
2. Australia – 3 (1988, 2002, 2010, 2024) :
Australia were the first team to win the ICC U19 World Cup when they defeated Pakistan in the final of the inaugural edition in 1988 to win the championship. Boys in Yellow had to wait till the 2002 edition to lift their second U19 World Cup in New Zealand. This time, they defeated South Africa in the final. Their third win came in 2010, once again in New Zealand where they outperformed Pakistan in the final. Australia’s fourth ICC U19 World Cup title came in 2024 when they defeated India in the final.
1. India – 5 (2000, 2008, 2012, 2018, 2022) :
There is only one team which has won the ICC U19 World Cup five times and it’s team India. Boys in Blue have an incredible record when it comes to this tournament. India won their maiden U19 title in the third edition in 2000, defeating Sri Lanka at their home in the final. Then they went on to win the 2008 and 2012 editions. The next two titles came in 2018 and 2022. When it comes to the ICC U19 World Cups, they are one of the toughest teams to beat.
