Jamaica Tallawahs won the inaugural edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in 2013.

The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is one of the most prominent franchise tournaments in the world. The six-team competition began in 2013.

Two teams, including one former champion, from the first season are defunct now and other teams replaced them.

From the 2013 to the 2024 season, a total of six different teams have won the CPL title. In this article, we will talk about the teams with most CPL titles in their cabinet.

List of teams with most Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title wins

6. Saint Lucia Kings – 1 title

Saint Lucia Kings have been part of the CPL since the very first season in 2013. But, they had to wait for 11 years to get their hands on the trophy. It came in 2024 under the captaincy of Faf du Plessis.

The Kings were brilliant throughout the tournament and lost only three games. Those defeats came in the group stage. They beat then-defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors in Qualifier 1 and final to win the tournament. Johnson Charles (452 runs) and Noor Ahmad (22 wickets) played key roles in the title win.

5. Guyana Amazon Warriors – 1 title

Based in Providence, Georgetown, Guyana Amazon Warriors haven’t had the best of the fortunes when it comes to the tournament finals.

They have been part of the tournament since the inaugural season and have played seven CPL finals until the 2024 season. But, they have only won the trophy once. Guyana lost their first five finals and finally broke the jinx by winning the 2023 season’s final under Imran Tahir’s captaincy.

4. St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots – 1 title

The St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, based in Saint Kitts and Nevis, made their debut in the competition in the third edition, which was in 2015. They reached their maiden final in 2017, but lost it to Jamaica Tallawahs.

Their second appearance in a CPL final was in 2021. This time, they went on to win the title by defeating Saint Lucia Kings. Dwayne Bravo was the captain who led St Kitts & Nevis Patriots to their maiden CPL title.

3. Barbados Royals – 2 titles

Barbados Royals, previously known as the Barbados Tridents, are one of the six teams who made their debuts in the inaugural CPL edition in 2013. They won the second edition in 2014 under Kieron Pollard’s captaincy, beating Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final.

They made it to the finals in 2015 as well, but lost to Trinidad and Tobago. Their second title victory came in 2019 when they beat Guyana once again, this time under the leadership of Jason Holder.

2. Jamaica Tallawahs – 3 titles

Jamaica Tallawahs used to be one of the strongest teams in CPL history. They played in the competition until 2023, but the franchise was disbanded ahead of CPL 2024 as the owners “could not find a way to operate the team sustainably.”

The Tallawahs won the inaugural edition in 2013 under Chris Gayle’s leadership, beating Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final. Their second title victory came in 2016 after beating the Warriors once again, also under Gayle.

The third title win for Jamaica was in 2022. In the final, they thumped the Barbados Royals. This win came under Rovman Powell.

1. Trinbago Knight Riders – 4 titles

The Trinbago Knight Riders, previously known as Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel, are the most successful team in CPL history. They have played five finals and won four of them. Plenty of T20 legends have represented TKR.

The Knight Riders won their maiden title in 2015 under Dwayne Bravo’s captaincy when they beat Barbados in the final.

The second title for TKR came when Bravo led them to win the 2017 season, beating St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the final. They defended their title successfully in the 2018 season, and Bravo became the first captain to take a CPL franchise to three titles. They beat Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final by 8 wickets.

The fourth CPL title for TKR came in 2020 under Keiron Pollard as they beat Saint Lucia Kings in the final.
