Temba Bavuma is nursing a calf injury and has missed the ongoing South Africa tour of Pakistan.

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma, who is missing the ongoing Pakistan test series due to an injury, has been named in the South Africa A side that will tour India later this month. This comes as a huge development as the Proteas are set to tour India later in the year for two tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is. The entire series will be played between November 14 and December 19.

Bavuma sustained the injury during South Africa’s white-ball tour of England in September 2025, missing the two-match test series against Pakistan earlier this month. In his absence, Aiden Markram captained the team, with Bavuma expected to be out for six to eight weeks.

Bavuma was also not named in the One-Day squad as he is recovering from the injury ahead of the actual series against India. This will be South Africa’s second consecutive series in Asia after Pakistan.

Temba Bavuma’s inclusion in South Africa A’s squad keeps in mind the plan to regain full match fitness and form ahead of South Africa’s senior tour of India. His participation is viewed as a smart move to ensure that he is completely equipped for the senior team’s hard workload.

Temba Bavuma’s return is much anticipated, given his status as a significant player in South African cricket. As a top-order batsman and a leader, his experience and leadership will be critical as the Proteas look to strengthen their squad ahead of a difficult series in India.

South Africa A’s trip to India will include two four-day games and a three-game One-Day series. Bavuma is scheduled to play in the second four-day event. The two four-day games will take place at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) grounds in Bengaluru from October 30 to November 9. South Africa A will also play three 50-over matches against India A in Rajkot from November 13 to 19.
