Team India have won the most consecutive test series at home in test cricket’s history.

The Indian cricket team have been the most dominant test side at home since 2013. The Asian Giants have outclassed every opponent at home over the past 11 years.

The chief reason for this huge success of India at home has been their legendary spin duo Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who have been delivering match-winning performances consistently for their side in familiar conditions.

The famed batsmen and other support-cast bowlers, too, have regularly stepped up to make India an almost indomitable side in India.

In fact, not just in the past decade, but India have been a strong force at home in the 21st century. They have lost only three home test series over the past 24 years!

There have been a few series, though, where India’s juggernaut was halted, sending shock waves through the fans. On that note, let’s take a look at the test series India have lost at home since January 1, 2000.

Test series India has lost at home since 1st January 2000:

1. 0-2 vs South Africa, Feb-Mar 2000

India’s only white-wash at home in the 21st century happened right at the turn of the millennium when South Africa arrived for a two-match test series in 2000.

The Proteas won the opening test by four wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Talking about the match, the hosts made 225 after Sachin Tendulkar scored 97 runs. In reply, South Africa scored 176 in their first innings. The hosts were then bundled out for just 113 runs in their second innings. While chasing 163, Herschelle Gibbs scored 46 to take his side over the line.

In the second test in Bengaluru. South Africa notched up 479 in the first innings. In reply, the hosts made 158 & 250 runs in their both innings respectively, losing the match by an innings and 71 runs.

Jacques Kallis bagged the Man of the Series award for his all-round efforts.

2. 1-2 vs Australia, Oct-Nov 2004

When Australia toured India for a four-match test series in 2004, the visitors stunned the hosts and clinched the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by scoreline of 1-2.

Australia started their tour on a winning note with a 217-run victory in Bengaluru. The second test in Chennai was drawn.

The Aussies hammered the Asian Giants in the third test in Nagpur by 342 runs to secure the series and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The hosts won the final test at the Wankhede by 13 runs.

Australia won the four-match test series 1-2. Damien Martyn was the Man of the Series for scoring 444 runs.

3. 1-2 vs England, Nov-Dec 2012

England breached India’s fortress in the 2012 test series, and too after losing the first test.

India started the series on a winning note with a nine-wicket win in Ahmedabad. Cheteshwar Pujara was named Player of the Match for his double century.

In the next test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, England’s Kevin Pietersen scored a stunning 186 in the first innings. That was followed by Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann’s superb bowling performances that helped the visitors win by 10 wickets to level the series.

England then took a lead in the series with a seven-wicket win in the third test at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. India made 316 in the first innings. In reply, Alastair Cook played a sensational knock of 190 runs, which guided his side to 523. The hosts were all out for 247 in their second innings and could set England a target of only 41 runs.

The fourth and last test of the series was drawn in Nagpur as England clinched the four-match test series 2-1. England captain Alastair Cook was named the Player of the Series for amassing 562 runs. Since then, India are yet to lose a test series at home.
