7 things for which Captain Cool MS Dhoni will always be remembered for

MS Dhoni was one of the most successful Indian captains.
Former Indian Cricket Team captain MS Dhoni is one of the biggest names in world cricket. This is because the kind of things that he did for Indian cricket made him one of the most celebrated players in the history of the game.
The aura of MS Dhoni arguably is much higher than Sachin Tendulkar, which in itself speaks about the stature of the keeper-batter. Wherever he goes, there are chants of “Dhoni Dhoni” as people go extremely crazy about him. The amount of success that he has achieved in his career as a batter as well as a skipper is something no one has done so far.
MS Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020, but he has kept his fitness top-notch and has been playing the Indian Premier League (IPL). Even in his mid-40s, he is performing better than some youngsters, which says a lot about his calibre as a player.
7 things for which Captain Cool MS Dhoni will always be remembered for
MS Dhoni is celebrating his 44th birthday on Monday 7th July, 2025. Even after five years of his retirement from international cricket, he remains the heart and soul of Indian fans. As he turns 44, let’s take a look at seven things for which Captain Cool MS Dhoni will always be remembered for.
1. A calm and composed mind
One of the major things for which MS Dhoni will always be remembered is his calm and composed nature. No matter how tense things are on the field, he never let pressure get the best of him. Over the years, both in Indian colours and for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), we have seen the keeper-batter being extremely cool even though the Required Run Rate (RR) is humongous or the runs are very few to save. And it is only because of his nature, he has been able to win many games on his own and is known as one of the best lower-order players.
2. Captaincy
The main thing that MS Dhoni will always be known for is his captaincy skills. The keeper-batter took the leadership of the Indian team in 2007 and made an instant impact as he led the team to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2007. After that, it was history as he ended up becoming the most successful captain in white-ball cricket for India winning the ODI World Cup in 2011 and Champions Trophy in 2013. Also, his leadership in the IPL was one for everyone to see, as he made a great impact there winning five titles.
3. Finishing skills with the bat
Apart from his captaincy, MS Dhoni is known as one of the greatest finishers in the history of the game. This is because the number of games that he has finished for the team, especially in tough situations, is something that not many can do. Both in international cricket and the IPL, he made a remarkable impact, and this is one thing that surely will be remembered by fans.
4. Wicket-keeping skills
There haven’t been many wicket-keepers who are better than MS Dhoni. He is rated amongst the top three keepers in the world, and this is because of the consistency that he showed behind the stumps during his career. His fast hands are still something that many can’t understand, as to how he does that. His impeccable skills behind the stumps changed the game for India many times, and the same has been the case in the IPL as well.
5. ICC trophies for India
Before MS Dhoni took over the leadership of India, the side was really struggling to get going in the International Cricket Council (ICC) events. But the move to appoint him as a leader changed the fortunes for the Indian Cricket Team. After taking the side to win in the ICC T20 World Cup 2007, he won the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 as captain. He is still the only captain in the world to win three different ICC white-ball titles.
6. IPL trophies for CSK

Apart from being their most successful captain for India, the keeper-batter has made a similar kind of impact in the IPL as well. It is only because of him that CSK are the most successful franchise in the league, as he guided them to five titles, which is the joint-most in the league. Under his leadership, the franchise also qualified for the playoffs the most number of times.
7. Fan following
Another major thing that MS Dhoni will always be remembered for is his massive fan following. The laurels that he has brought to India, as well as CSK, make him one of the most followed cricketers in the world. Even in the IPL, wherever he plays, the stands are filled with yellow jerseys, which says a lot about his fan following.
