Tilak Varma scored 26 runs off 32 balls in first IND vs SA T20I.

The Indian Cricket Team batter Tilak Varma achieved a massive feat in the T20Is, surpassing Abhishek Sharma’s record. He became the first Indian batter to score 1000 runs in T20 internationals before turning 25.

Tilak Varma achieved the feat in the first T20I against the South Africa Cricket Team. The opening game of the five-match T20I series is taking place at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Tuesday, December 9.

Tilak Varma walked out to bat at four in the first T20I against South Africa after India lost two early wickets. He tried to steady the Indian ship and played some good shots, putting pressure back on the opposition. He along with Abhishek Sharma (17) added 31 runs that brought India back in the game.

Tilak Varma, who has been the mainstay of the Indian batting lineup, has risen in ranks in a pretty quick time. He was one of the main reasons behind India winning the Asia Cup 2025. He played innings of a lifetime in the final, helping his team win the game from a losing position.

Tilak Varma made his debut in August 2023 and since then has played many match-winning innings for India. The left-hander in the ongoing game against South Africa played an innings of 26 runs off 32 balls, hitting two boundaries and one six during his stay at the crease.

Overall in the match, India had a horrible outing with the bat as they lost wickets in quick succession. They were left reeling at 104 for five at one stage. But it was, Hardik Pandya, who bailed the team out of trouble with his blinder of an innings.

The all-rounder slammed unbeaten 59 off 28 balls with six boundaries and four sixes to take India to the total of 175 for four, which at one stage seemed impossible.
