Watch: Tilak Varma receives a special video call from Dewald Brevis to congratulate him on India debut
Tilak Varma top scored for India with 39 runs on his debut against West Indies in the first T20I.
The cricketing world witnessed a heartwarming moment after India’s recent match against the West Indies when Tilak Varma, a promising young talent, made his debut for the India. However, his special surprise came after the game when he received a heartfelt video message from none other than his Mumbai Indians teammate, Dewald Brevis. The camaraderie between the two players has been evident both on and off the field, making this gesture all the more meaningful.
Tilak Varma, a talented 20-year-old cricketer from India, had been making waves in domestic cricket, and his hard work paid off when he earned his spot in the Indian national cricket team for the T20I series against the West Indies. Dewald Brevis, a 20-year-old cricketer from South Africa, is also highly regarded in the cricket circuit. The bond between the two youngsters has been growing, given their association with the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
After a stellar debut performance, where Varma showcased his brilliance with a quickfire 39 runs off just 22 balls, he received a special message from his MI teammate, Brevis. In the heartwarming video, Brevis expressed his excitement and joy for Varma’s achievement and conveyed his family’s congratulations.
Brevis said, “Hey brother, I hope you are very excited. I don’t know if I am more excited than you, but I just want to say from my side and from the Brevis family, congratulations on your debut.”
He further acknowledged the significance of the moment for Varma and his family, recognizing the hard work and sacrifices that had led to this milestone. “It’s such a great moment for you and your family. I can just imagine how happy your parents and everyone else must be. It’s great to see you out there, living your dream,” Brevis remarked.
The South African cricketer also praised Varma’s spectacular sixes hit on the second and third balls of his innings, expressing his awe and admiration for the feat. “Those shots on the second and third balls gave me goosebumps. You always have my support, and I wish you all the best for the rest of the series. I’m backing you fully, and go win every game for Team India. Cheers, brother!” he exclaimed.
Varma, visibly moved by the thoughtful message, expressed his gratitude in return. He revealed that he was expecting messages from his coach and family, but the surprise from his MI teammate caught him off guard and touched his heart deeply. “I was thinking about whether it could be my coach or my family, but it was Dewald Brevis, my brother. Thank you so much, my brother. I always loved you. I really appreciate your message. See you soon, and thank you so much,” said Varma.
Tilak Varma’s stellar performance goes in vain as India lose first T20I by 4 runs
In the opening encounter of the T20I series, India found themselves bowling first after losing the toss. A splendid bowling display by the Indian team, restricted the West Indies to a total of 149/6. Despite a commendable effort with the ball, India’s inexperienced batting lineup struggled during the chase, resulting in their 200th T20I ending in defeat.
