Tim David suffered an injury while running between the wickets, during a BBL 2025-26 match against Perth Scorchers.

Tim David is one of the best finishers in the shortest format currently, and is expected to play a massive role for Australia in a few months’ time, at the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. However, a recent setback has puts his participation in jeopardy.

Chasing 150 against Perth Scorchers, Hobart Hurricanes were under pressure, losing three of their top four batters early, with Nikhil Chaudhary at the other end struggling for timing. However, Tim David released the pressure from the other end, smoking three fours and two massive sixes, making 42 runs off just 28 balls, to put his team in a winning position.

Unfortunately, he was unable to see the Hurricanes through. As he played a short-arm jab, and pushed for a single, he began limping and realised that he had pulled his hamstring.

Macalister Wright, who played the next ball, missed the flick on the following delivery, but the attention quickly swayed towards the star Aussie. David began hobbling at the non-strikers end, and immediately signalled for the physio. He looked in immense pain, and was forced to walk off the field.

The injury setback did not deter the men in purple though, as they proceeded to chase down the target with three balls to spare.

Is Tim David ruled out for the rest of the BBL season?

An update on Tim David’s fitness is still awaited. However, his comments during the post-match press conference offered a sense of reassurance regarding his condition.

“It just felt a little bit of something (hammy) when I was trying to come back for two, so not ideal, but I didn’t want to make it worse. I had full faith in the boys to get us home, so they did”, said the 29-year-old, giving a promising update on his hamstring.

If his self-assessment proves accurate, the Australian could return to action for the Hurricanes in a few days’ time. That said, the medical staff are expected to proceed cautiously, mindful of a far more significant assignment looming in the months ahead.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 begins on February 7, and Australia will be keen to have their premier finisher fully fit and firing.
