Tim David played a crucial role in RCB’s IPL 2026 triumph.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won their second Indian Premier League (IPL) title after defeating the Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Virat Kohli won the Player of the Match award after playing a heroic knock of 75 off 42 balls. RCB played exceptional cricket and showed great cricketing skills and team efforts in a high-stakes game.
After winning the two back-to-back IPL trophies, RCB join the elite list of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI). Bengaluru played dominating cricket throughout the season; they finished the group stage at top spot with 18 points and won 9 games out of 14 matches played.
Tim David banned for first match of IPL 2026

RCB all-rounder Tim David has been suspended for the opening match of the next IPL season after throwing an ice bag towards umpire Nitin Menon during the IPL 2026 Final.
The BCCI fined him 50% of his match fee and gave him two demerit points for breaching Level 1 of the IPL code of conduct. This is now his fifth demerit point; therefore, he will miss RCB’s first game in the IPL 2027.
The incident happened in the 10th over of the first innings of the IPL 2026 Final against the Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After a wicket fell, Tim David was seen aggressively throwing an ice bag in the direction of umpire Nitin Menon.
This action by Tim David was a direct breach of Article 2.9 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which covers throwing any item of cricket equipment (a ball, water bottle or anything else) at or near a player, umpire or any other person in a dangerous or inappropriate manner during a match.
Match Referee Javagal Srinath handled the case, and Tim David admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction.
David Penalised for Offensive gesture during MI encounter
This was not his first offence of the season. David has already got demerit points earlier in IPL 2026. His first Level 1 offence came in Match 20, where he received one demerit point.
David’s second came in Match 54 against the Mumbai Indians in Raipur on May 10, where he was fined 30% of his match fee for using an offensive gesture and got two demerit points.
Despite the disciplinary issues, David played an important role in RCB’s successful IPL 2026 campaign. The hard-hitting batter was one of the team’s key finishers and played a crucial role in the middle and lower order throughout the tournament.
During IPL 2026, David scored 312 runs in 15 innings at an average of 39.00 and a strike rate of 188.57. He registered two half-centuries and delivered some impactful cameos that helped RCB to have competitive totals and finish a successful chase.
