Touring Ireland, they lost the series 0–2, making it the first time Ireland defeated India in a T20I series. After that, they toured England and suffered an embarrassing 0–4 defeat. England defeated the India in a T20I series for the first time in 12 years.

This is the first time that the Shreyas Iyer-led side has faced two back-to-back whitewashes in T20I cricket, which has drawn criticism from the media and the fans.The first-ever whitewash they suffered came in 2009 when they toured New Zealand for a two-match T20I series and lost both games.
