These stylish batters have made this league more popular across the globe.

With the IPL reaching new heights every year, there is a elite group of batters who have amassed the most runs in the tournament’s history till now. From the elegant batting of Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli to the aggressive stroke-play of David Warner and Chris Gayle, these batters have entertained fans with their batting skills.

Veteran player Dinesh Karthik has been one of the main pillars in IPL history since 2008. The wicket-keeper batter has played for several franchises across the years and his ability to finish games with aggressive batting and calmness under pressure has helped many teams. 

With 4582 runs in 244 matches and 223 innings, Karthik’s versatility as a wicket-keeper batter has been his strength. The right-hander has represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Lions.

Robin Uthappa‘s stylish batting and elegant stroke-play were the main highlights of his IPL career. The 2007 ICC World T20 winner amassed 4952 runs in 205 matches and 197 innings and was a vital cog in the wheel for many IPL franchises.

Whether opening the innings for the Chennai Super Kings or playing the finisher’s role, the veteran batter had the ability to adapt to any situation. The biggest asset for him was that he could find the boundaries easily and score quick runs, which put pressure on opposing teams.

The stylish player was part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians and Pune Warriors India in the showpiece event.

8. Chris Gayle

West Indies legendary batter Chris Gayle‘s arrival in the IPL brought a new era of dominance and power-hitting batting, which also entertained many fans throughout his glorious career. The left-handed batter amassed 4965 runs in 142 matches and 141 innings and Gayle also re-defined the art of batting in the cash-rich league.

The great batter represented three IPL franchises, including the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings. His main strength was to take the game away from the opposition single-handedly and dismantle bowling attacks, which made him a true legend of the IPL.

One of the legends to play in the IPL, MS Dhoni is a phenomenon in the world of cricket. Having won a record-breaking five titles while captaining the Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni has etched his name in the record books not just for his leadership qualities, but also for his dominant batting performances during his glorious career.

With 5082 runs in 252 matches and 218 innings, the former Indian skipper has been instrumental in giving the finishing touch to his franchise. His ability to finish games with powerful hitting and sharp skills behind the stumps have made him a legend in the IPL.

With 5162 runs in 184 matches and 170 innings, South African legend AB de Villiers is one of the greatest players ever to play in the IPL. The stylish batter who was known for his versatile batting and unorthodox stroke-play, “AbD” earned the nickname “Mr. 360.”

During his stint at the prestigious tournament, he represented two IPL teams, which included Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Daredevils (now known as Delhi Capitals). The legendary batter left an indelible mark on the IPL with his ability to play shots all around the ground. 

5. Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina, who was also known as “Mr IPL,” was one of the finest and most consistent batters in the tournament’s history. With 5528 runs in 205 games and 200 innings, the legendary batter was one of the main pillars in the Chennai Super Kings’ wheel. His stylish stroke-play and aggressive batting approach dismantled opposition bowling attacks.

His versatile nature and adapting to the situation very well were the main reasons why Raina had so much success in the IPL. Raina’s knack for scoring crucial runs in crunch situations played a significant role in CSK’s success over the years. Apart from CSK, he also played for the Gujarat Lions.

4. Rohit Sharma

We all know about Rohit Sharma‘s success as a captain in the IPL. Having won five titles for the Mumbai Indians franchise, Sharma has cemented his place as one of the finest leaders in the history of the game.

However, apart from his leadership qualities, Rohit has been a linchpin for his franchise over the years. With 6280 runs in 245 matches and 240 innings, the veteran batter has etched his name as one of the greatest batters the IPL has ever witnessed.

Veteran Australian batter David Warner has smashed 6426 runs in 177 matches and innings. Warner has been a force to reckon with in the IPL. Leading from the front for the Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, Warner’s aggressive batting style and innovative stroke-play have made him a nightmare for opposition bowlers.

His ability to score quick runs and dominate from the word go has earned him the tag of being one of the most fearless and destructive batters in the cash-rich league. Apart from his batting skills, Warner captained the Sunrisers Hyderabad for a few IPL seasons and took them to their maiden title in 2016.

2. Shikhar Dhawan

Veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan is second on the list of most successful batters in IPL history. Dhawan’s IPL journey has seen him don the colours of several IPL franchises, including the Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The left-handed batter has smashed 6684 runs in 219 matches and 218 innings and has played a crucial role in the top order with his exquisite stroke-play giving quick starts to his team. Earlier, he had a good run while opening along with former SRH skipper Warner.

With a staggering 7361 runs to his name, Indian batter Virat Kohli stands tall as the highest run-scorer in IPL history. Representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru throughout his IPL career, Kohli has shown great consistency and class, which no other batter has matched in the tournament’s history.

Having played 239 games and 231 innings, the legendary cricketer has displayed an aggressive yet stylish batting approach, which has made him a dominant force in the T20 format. His ability to anchor the innings and then shift gears when needed has been instrumental in RCB’s campaigns over the years. However, despite being at the top of the leading run-scorers’ list, Kohli hasn’t won any IPL titles till now.
