West Indies legendary batter Chris Gayle‘s arrival in the IPL brought a new era of dominance and power-hitting batting, which also entertained many fans throughout his glorious career. The left-handed batter amassed 4965 runs in 142 matches and 141 innings and Gayle also re-defined the art of batting in the cash-rich league.

The great batter represented three IPL franchises, including the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings. His main strength was to take the game away from the opposition single-handedly and dismantle bowling attacks, which made him a true legend of the IPL.

9. Ajinkya Rahane

One of the most underrated batters in IPL, Ajinkya Rahane sits 9th on the list of top 10 batters with most runs in IPL. The Current Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter has hit 5032 runs in the league in 198 games. Having played for RR, CSK and KKR, he has hit two centuries and 33 fifties as well.

With 5162 runs in 184 matches and 170 innings, South African legend AB de Villiers is one of the greatest players ever to play in the IPL. The stylish batter who was known for his versatile batting and unorthodox stroke-play, “AbD” earned the nickname “Mr. 360.”

6. MS Dhoni

One of the legends to play in the IPL, MS Dhoni is a phenomenon in the world of cricket. Having won a record-breaking five titles while captaining the Chennai Super Kings, Dhoni has etched his name in the record books not just for his leadership qualities, but also for his dominant batting performances during his glorious career.

5. Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina, who was also known as “Mr IPL,” was one of the finest and most consistent batters in the tournament’s history. With 5528 runs in 205 games and 200 innings, the legendary batter was one of the main pillars in the Chennai Super Kings’ wheel. His stylish stroke-play and aggressive batting approach dismantled opposition bowling attacks.

Veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan is second on the list of most successful batters in IPL history. Dhawan’s IPL journey has seen him don the colours of several IPL franchises, including the Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The left-handed batter has smashed 6769 runs in 222 matches and 221 innings and has played a crucial role in the top order with his exquisite stroke-play giving quick starts to his team. Earlier, he had a good run while opening along with former SRH skipper Warner. He announced his retirement from the league in 2024.

2. Rohit Sharma

His ability to anchor the innings and then shift gears when needed has been instrumental in RCB’s campaigns over the years. He also helped RCB win their maiden title in 2025.
