A few big players have lost their place in India’s T20I team ahead of the Ireland series.

BCCI has announced India‘s squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, as well as the Asian Games 2026. The Ireland and England series will be played in June and July, respectively. On the other hand, the Asian Games 2026 will take place from September to October.

Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as the new T20I captain of India, while Tilak Varma has been named as his deputy. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Hardik Pandya have been rested for the Ireland and England series as the BCCI wants them to focus on the 50-over format and the ODI World Cup 2027. However, Bumrah will play in the Asian Games 2026.

Surprisingly, a few well-known players have been dropped from India’s T20I team due to their poor form in recent months. In this listicle, let’s take a glance at the top players who have lost their place in India’s T20I team.

Kuldeep Yadav was part of India’s squad in the T20 World Cup 2026. He also played an instrumental role in India’s victory in the Asia Cup last year. The left-arm spinner has been dropped from the T20I team due to his poor show in the Indian Premier League 2026.

Representing Delhi Capitals (DC), he could only get 10 wickets in 12 games at an economy rate of 10.29. He failed to get wickets in a few games and emerged too expensive.

Ravi Bishnoi has made a comeback to the T20I team and has been picked as the frontline spinner. Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are other spinners in the squad.

Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh was also part of India’s squad in the T20 World Cup 2026. He flopped with his batting in the tournament, getting out for single digits in the initial games. Later, he was also dropped from the playing XI.

He did a decent job in IPL 2026 for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), scoring 295 runs in 11 innings at an average of over 59 and a strike rate of 148. He also slammed two half-centuries. However, due to his continuous failures for the national team, the BCCI has dropped him from the T20Is.

Suryakumar Yadav led India to the T20 World Cup title in March; however, things have not gone well for him since then. The right-handed batsman failed to impress with his batting in the T20 World Cup, except for one fifty in the clash against the USA at the start.

His poor performance continued for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026. He scored just 210 runs in 12 encounters, averaging 17.50 and including just one half-century. Despite doing a brilliant job as captain, he has struggled with his form over the last one year.

Due to his poor form and age factor, the BCCI has appointed Shreyas Iyer as the new captain of the T20I team. Moreover, Suryakumar has also lost his place in the T20I side.
