Towhid Hridoy suspended for four matches by Bangladesh Cricket Board

Towhid Hridoy has represented Bangladesh in ODIs and T20Is.
Bangladesh cricketer Tohwid Hridoy has been suspended for four games in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPDCL). It is a domestic 50-over tournament in Bangladesh. The decision was taken by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The right-handed batsman was handed a ban for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision.
Notably, Hridoy is the skipper of Mohammedan Sporting Club in the domestic tournament. During a match against Gazi Group Cricketers on Saturday, April 26, he disrespected on-field umpires by disagreeing with their decision. He was given caught out by the umpire during the match. However, he stood at the crease for a while and did not leave the field immediately.
As a result, on-field umpires Moniruzzaman Tinku and Ali Arman Rajon, third umpire Muhammad Kamruzzaman, and fourth official ATM Ikram charged him for misconduct. However, he denied the charge and chose to contest it during the disciplinary hearing. However, he did not appear for the hearing. Hence, he was found guilty of the same.
Towhid Hridoy found guilty of committing level 1 offence: BCB
BCB released an official statement over the matter and informed that Hridoy was found guilty of committing a level 1 offence under their Code of Conduct. Notably, Article 2.8 of the BCB Code of Conduct deals with ‘showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during a match’.
Therefore, he was handed eight demerit points over the incident. He also had seven demerit points from the previous breaches of the code of conduct. Taking strict action over the incident, the board decided to ban him for four matches in the league. Under level 1 offence, players get a minimum sanction of a warning and a maximum penalty of 40,000 Taka (Bangladesh currency) and 1 or 2 demerit points.
Meanwhile, Hridoy is a key national player for Bangladesh cricket team and has played 35 ODIs and 32 T20Is so far. He is yet to make his debut in test cricket. He made his international debut in March 2023.
