Twitter gets berserk as Bangladesh win second test, whitewash Pakistan for the first time
Bangladesh thrashed Pakistan 2-0 to register their first ever test series win over Pakistan.
Bangladesh completed a stunning whitewash of the Pakistan team by winning the second test of the two-match series in Rawalpindi. This is the first time Bangladesh have defeated Pakistan in consecutive Tests and defeated them in test series.
After winning the first test, also at Rawalpindi by 10 wickets, Bangladesh came into the second test with more confidence. On the other hand, Pakistan pressed the panic button and dropped Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah from the XI and picked Mir Hamza and Abrar Ahmed.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and chose to bowl first. Abdullah Shafique’s poor run continued as he fell for a duck in the first over itself. Then Saim Ayub and Shan Masood added 107 runs for the second wicket and both batters scored fifties.
But then Pakistan batters suffered another meltdown as they systematically got out with no batter including Babar Azam willing to apply themselves. Pakistan ended up making 274 runs in their first innings.
However, Pakistan bowlers, especially Khurram Shahzad (6/90) rattled Bangladesh top-order reducing them to 26/6. But then Litton Das played a brilliant knock of 138 and with Mehidy Hasan Miraz (78), took Bangladesh to 262 runs, reducing the deficit to just 12 runs.
Bangladesh bowlers and batters hand them a handsome test series win over Pakistan; Twitterverse reacts
Many expected Pakistan to make a huge comeback in the second innings, but their batters’ poor form continued as they were packed up for 172 runs. Salman Agha and Mohammad Rizwan scored in 40s. For the visitors Hasan Mahmud picked 5 wickets, while Nahid Rana picked 4 scalps, including that of Babar Azam.
Bangladesh were set just 185 runs to chase down and they knocked off 42 for no wicket at stumps on day 4.
On day 5, while Pakistan fans prayed for rain, Bangladesh batters continued their single focus on the goal of winning the match. While openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam got out early on day 5, the rest of the batting lineup contributed enough for Bangladesh to complete an astonishing 6-wicket win in the end.
With this, Bangladesh pocketed the series 2-0 as well, handing Pakistan their second whitewash at home after England’s 3-0 drubbing last year.
The Twitterverse was all praises for Bangladesh, while the Pakistan team got hammered on social media for losing both Tests to Bangladesh.
