Sam Curran made 63 runs off 47 balls against Delhi Capitals in second match of IPL 2024.

In second match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 edition, Punjab Kings (PBKS) all-rounder Sam Curran slammed 63 runs off 47 balls, including six fours and a six, to help his side defeat Delhi Capitals (DC) by four wickets at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium here on March 22.

DC’s Impact player Abishek Porel played a lovely cameo right at the end of the innings to help his side post a competitive 174/9 in 20 overs against PBKS. Porel’s cameo of 32* in 10 balls, including 25 runs off the last over, helped DC go from 149/8 to cross the 170-run mark.

In the chase of 175, Dhawan’s PBKS were in worry after Prabhsimran Singh‘s dismissal. Curran, along with hard-hitter Liam Livingstone, made a 67-run stand to help the hosts reach 167 runs in 18.3 overs before getting dismissed on 63. His fifty was first of the ongoing IPL season.

However, there was a late twist in the 19th over, with DC pacer Khaleel Ahmed picking two wickets in two deliveries. In the 20th over, PBKS’ Livingstone smashed a huge six over mid-wicket and guided his side to their first victory in IPL 2024.

Curran became the then costliest player ever acquired in history of the IPL auction when he was bought by PBKS for a whopping 18.5 crores at IPL 2023 auction. Now the record belongs to KKR’s Mitchell Starc, who was bought for 24.75 crores by the franchise at IPL 2024 auction.
