The IND vs AFG Super 8 clash ended up being a one-sided affair with India clinching a big victory.

In the IND vs AFG match of Super 8 round at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, India recorded an emphatic 47-run victory over Rashid Khan-led Afghanistan side at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, on June 20.

The margin of victory speaks volumes about the dominance of the Indian bowlers over the Afghan batters. This huge win also helped India get a significant Net Run Rate (NRR), which might come in handy if they are tied on points with any other team at the end of Super 8 round.

Talking about the match, Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. Afghanistan had India in a precarious position when the Men In Blue were 62/3 in the ninth over with the top three back in the dressing room.

However, Suryakumar Yadav, who hit a match-winning fifty against the USA in the previous match, took on the mantle to bail the side out once again. While against the USA he reached his fifty in 49 balls, here he got to the landmark in 27 balls with the help of five fours and three sixes. SKY scored 53 runs off 28 balls.

Supporting Suryakumar was Hardik Pandya, who scored 32 runs off 24 balls. Later, Axar Patel’s 12 (6) helped India post a formidable total of 181.

In the chase, Afghanistan never got going. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai with slower balls, while the spin trio of Axar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja got on the wickets column. The highest score for Afghanistan was Azmatullah Omarzai with 26 runs.

Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers once again with mind-blowing figures of 4-1-7-3.

Netizens on Twitter erupted as India kick-started their Super 8 round with a massive win over Afghanistan.
