England beat India by five wickets at Headingley in Leeds to go 1-0 up in series.

The England Cricket Team started the five-match test series against the Indian Cricket Team on a high. They completed a magnificent five-wicket win at Headingly in Leeds and took a 1-0 lead in the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy.

England, who bowled first, didn’t have a great start to the game as not much went their way in the first innings. India had three centurions in Yashasvi Jaiswal (101), Shubman Gill (147) and Rishabh Pant (134), who helped their team post a massive total of 471 runs on the board.

However, England showed a great fightback with the bat in their first innings. Ollie Pope (106) hit a stupendous ton, while a 99-run knock by Harry Brook put India on the back foot. Although they couldn’t go past India’s total, thanks to a fifer by Jasprit Bumrah, they came very close, scoring 465 runs.

With a lead of just six runs, India had another great outing with the bat. KL Rahul (137) hit a brilliant ton and got great support from Rishabh Pant (118), who slammed his second ton of the game. However, like the first innings, the visitors lost the last few wickets quickly, managing 364 runs, which set a target of 371 runs.

England were brilliant with the bat in the chase. Openers Zak Crawley (65) and Ben Duckett (149) set the platform with their 188-run opening stand. The left-hander, in particular, batted aggressively and outplayed the opposition with his magnificent innings.

India kept taking wickets at regular intervals, but they couldn’t contain the run flow. Joe Root (53*) and Jamie Smith (44*) held the fort in the end as England chased the target with five wickets in hand.

Fans react as India fail to defend the target of 371 runs against England in Leeds

As India failed to win the game despite setting a mammoth target of 371 runs, fans on Twitter reacted to the result. They lashed out at the Shubman Gill-led side for their poor bowling and fielding effort, giving some angry reactions:
