Kolkata Knight Riders fell five short of reaching the highest ever IPL total.
In the match No. 16 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first against the hosts Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Dr. YSR ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on April 3.
Shreyas decision’s went right as Kolkata hammered 272/7 in 20 overs, falling five runs short of the highest ever IPL total. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 277/3 against Mumbai Indians, which they achieved earlier in the ongoing tournament, is the highest ever IPL total till now.
KKR also registered their highest ever total as they slammed 272/7 against DC. Earlier, their highest IPL total was 245/6, which came against Punjab Kings in the IPL 2018.
Earlier in the innings, Kolkata opener Sunil Narine scored a blistering knock of 85 runs, while young right-handed batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored his maiden IPL fifty. On a placid pitch, KKR produced two hours of sensational carnage by hitting 22 fours and 18 sixes.
In the end, Rinku Singh had some fun by using his strong bottom hand to smash Capitals ace pacer Anrich Nortje for three sixes and a four in the 19th over before getting out. However, in the 20th over, veteran pacer Ishant Sharma produced a stunning delivery as he dismantled Russell (41 off 19) with a sharp yorker as DC kept KKR short of breaking SRH’s record total of 277.
Here are some of the Tweets after KKR’s explosive batting against DC:
