Mumbai won their record-extending 42nd Ranji Trophy title.
Mumbai claimed their 42nd Ranji Trophy title after defeating Vidarbha by 169 runs in the final of the 89th edition of the tournament, played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from March 10 to March 14, 2024.
Vidarbha captain Akshay Wadkar won the toss and chose to bowl first. His decision proved to be the right one as Mumbai only managed 224 runs in their first innings. Prithvi Shaw made 46 runs, but the savior of Mumbai’s innings was Shardul Thakur, who made 75 runs with 8 fours and 3 sixes. He rescued the Mumbai team from 111/6.
Yash Thakur and Harsh Dubey picked 3 wickets each for Vidarbha.
In response, Mumbai bowlers ran through the Vidarbha batting lineup and bundled them out for 105 runs, with Yash Rathod top-scoring with 27 runs and Atharva Taide making 23. Dhawal Kulkarni, Shams Mulani, and Tanush Kotian picked three scalps for Mumbai.

In their second innings, Mumbai did well to extend their lead of 119 runs. Musheer Khan led the way with a brilliant knock of 136 runs. He became the youngest Mumbai batter to score a century in the Ranji Trophy final, beating the record of Sachin Tendulkar.
Ajinkya Rahane with 73, Shreyas Iyer with 95, and Shams Mulani with 50 paved the way for Mumbai to make 418 runs in the second innings. Harsh Dubey picked 5/144 and Yash Thakur took 3 wickets for Vidarbha.
In response to the 538-run target, Vidarbha tried their best. Karun Nair made 74 runs and Harsh Dubey shined with the bat as well, scoring 65 runs. Captain Akshay Wadkar led from the front, scoring 102 runs, but the total was way out of their reach.
Mumbai’s Dhawal Kulkarni picked the final wicket in his final appearance in a cricket match for his team, as Vidarbha folding for 368 runs, lost the game by 169 runs. Mumbai became the Ranji Trophy champions for the 42nd time.
