Twitter reacts as rain plays spoilsport, delays IND vs PAK clash in ICC T20 World Cup 2024

The start of the IND vs PAK encounter of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 got delayed by more than 30 minutes.

There had already been a lack of buzz and excitement in New York in the build-up to the India Vs. Pakistan encounter of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 compared to what you would expect for the biggest rivalry in cricket. The exorbitant prices of the tickets and the lack of following of the game in New York had made even the IND vs PAK clash seem less prominent than what it is.

Adding to the misery of the ICC, the organisers of the event who heavily rely on the Indo-Pak clashes to rope in huge broadcasting deals, was the rain.

The predicted rain arrived and it dampened the mood of the fans. There was rain leading into the match which pushed the toss and the scheduled start of the game by 30 minutes.

The toss took place at 11:00 AM local time (8:00 PM IST) and the match was scheduled to get underway half an hour after that.

However, soon after the toss was concluded, light rain arrived. About 10 minutes later, the drizzle picked got heavy and everyone on the ground rushed back in the dressing room. Thankfully, 10 minutes later, the covers were peeled off but dark clouds kept hovering over the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

More rain is predicted at about 11:00 PM IST, altough given the already difficult batting conditions in New York, which were now exacerbated for the batters with rain and moisture, it doesn’t feel that the match will be needed to run it entire course of 40 overs.

The rain around the IND vs PAK clash frustrated the fans, both in the stadium and sitting in front of their television screens.
