South Africa won the first test match against India by an innings and 32 runs in Centurion.
Everyone witnessed an exhilarating clash in the first test match between South Africa and India. India, who have never won a series in South African soil, will need another chance to do so. The highly anticipated encounter ended inside three days.
The initial two days of the test match saw early stumps, with both teams displaying resilience and determination. However, it was on the third day that South Africa emerged victorious in a thrilling contest.
South Africa thrash India under three days
India’s batting performance in the first inning saw a mix of promise and struggle. KL Rahul’s splendid century, stood out as a testament to his batting abilities. However, Indian batting order faced stiff resistance from South African bowling attack, with Kagiso Rabada and Nandre Burger wreaking havoc, claiming five and three wickets, respectively. The fall of wickets at crucial junctures halted India’s momentum, and they concluded their innings at 245 runs.
In response, South Africa showcased their batting skills, with Dean Elgar leading the charge. Elgar’s magnificent 185, supported by crucial contributions from David Bedingham and Marco Jansen, powered South Africa to an imposing total of 408. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj led India’s bowling attack, but Proteas’ resilience was evident as they dominated the proceedings.
India’s second innings began on a challenging note. Nandre Burger’s exceptional bowling performance, supported by Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen, saw them dismantle Indian top-order. Virat Kohli’s 76 offered a glimmer of hope, but the relentless South African bowling attack continued to exert pressure. India finished the innings at 131/10, which concluded South Africa as the winners of the first test by an innings and 32 runs.
Dean Elgar, who is playing his last test series of his career and is the stand-in captain in Temba Bavuma’s absence, won the player of the match award for his crucial innings. Both teams will face each other from 3rd January 2024 at Newlands, Cape Town for the second test.
Fans took it to twitter to congratulate South African team but were also disappointed at India’s failure.
