SRH smashed 125 off the first six overs against Delhi at the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi.

Match No. 35 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) is currently underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). It has started in a record-breaking way for the visitors. SRH have already posted two mammoth totals in the IPL 2024, and it looks like they are up for an even bigger one tonight. That is how both SRH openers have started the innings.

DC won the toss, and it is the only thing that has gone their way until now. The carnage began from the first over itself when Travis Head took Khaleel Ahmad to the cleaners and scored 19 runs off it. Both SRH openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, carried on the momentum and smashed every DC bowler to all parts of the stadium. Meanwhile, Head also completed the joint-fastest fifty for SRH.

Twitter reacts as SRH put up highest ever powerplay score in IPL

Head went on to smash a 16-ball fifty and equal the record set by Abhishek Sharma earlier this season. Both batters punished the bowlers, reached the 100-run mark within 5 overs, and registered the fastest team’s fifty in IPL history. They added 125/0 after the first powerplay, and social media was flooded with crazy reactions from fans.

Here’s how fans reacted to the incident:

Notably, SRH’s 125/0 is the highest powerplay not only in the IPL, but also in all T20s. Abhishek was the first batter to be dismissed in the innings. He smashed 46 off just 12 balls with two fours and six maximums. He was just one hit away from breaking the record for the fastest IPL fifty. Currently, Yashasvi Jaiswal holds the record, which he achieved in just 13 deliveries against KKR last year.

Kuldeep Yadav gave DC the first breakthrough dismissing Sharma. He then dismissed Aiden Markram in the same over to take two wickets in the over. However, SRH have a long batting line-up, and they can fancy their chances to break their own record of 282. Head and Klaasen are at the crease, and if they can stay for 7-8 overs, that record might get broken today.
