"Incredible win.." Twitter reacts as SRH thrash RR by 36 runs to enter the IPL 2024 finals
SRH defeated RR comprehensively in Qualifier 2 by 36 runs to seal their place in the IPL 2024 final against KKR.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will play their third Indian Premier League (IPL) final on Sunday night at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. They will face Shreyas Iyer and Gautam Gambhir’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final. SRH will aim for their second IPL trophy, while KKR will be eyeing their third IPL title.
Should Hyderabad win the IPL 2024 trophy, it will further add to the legacy of Pat Cummins, who won two ICC titles last year as Australia’s captain.
After losing to KKR in Qualifier 1, SRH bounced back in Qualifier 2 on Friday in Chennai by defeating Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 36 runs.
SRH spinners Abhishek Sharma and Shahbaz Ahmed were chiefly responsible for the demolition of RR’s batting as Samson’s side fell 36 runs short of the target of 176. The two left-arm spinners combined to pick 5 wickets in eight overs and conceded 47 runs. Their spell in the middle overs put the game heavily in SRH’s favour as RR slipped from 65/1 to 92/6.
Earlier in the game, Samson had won the toss and elected to bowl first, believing that dew would prove to be a major factor in Chennai as it did in the league phase. However, the Chepauk surface stayed true to its reputation of favouring spinners. The pitch got difficult as the match progressed, making life challenging for the RR batters.
Hyderabad had three major contributors with the bat. Travis Head scored 34 (28), and Rahul Tripathi blazed to 37 (15). But SRH suffered a tough time in the middle overs as they went from 55/1 to 120/6. It required a brilliant half-century from Heinrich Klaasen, who scored 50 runs in 34 balls, to take SRH to 175, which felt par at that time.
Jaiswal gave RR a strong start with his 42 (21). However, once he was dismissed in the 8th over, the RR batting order collapsed in front of the spin tricks of Abhishek and Shahbaz. The ball turned considerably and the pair used variation of speeds impressively to outfox the RR batters.
Eventually, SRH clinched the victory by 36 runs, and next will face KKR in the final on Sunday.
Fans were impressed by the captaincy of Pat Cummins in this match, and once again Australia’s golden boy will be aiming to silence a huge fanbase that is of KKR and Gambhir’s.
