"Proper Annihilation" Twitter erupts as SRH chase 166 against LSG in just 9.4 overs
SRH have now moved to third spot in IPL 2024 points table with 14 points from 7 wins in 12 games.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) hosted Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 57th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on May 8, 2024. SRH were coming off a narrow win over Rajasthan Royals, while LSG had lost to Kolkata Knight Riders by 98 runs in their last match.
KL Rahul, captain of LSG, won the toss and chose to bat first. But the Lucknow team lost two early wickets in Quinton de Kock (2) and Marcus Stoinis (3). KL Rahul made 29 runs in 33 balls and followed soon after.
Krunal Pandya tried to give some impetus to the innings with 24 runs but was run out. The most valuable knocks came from Nicholas Pooran and Ayush Badoni. The duo added 99* runs for the 5th wicket. Pooran remained unbeaten on 48 in 26 balls with 6 fours and 1 six and Badoni made 55* in 30 balls with 9 fours to his name.
Their efforts took LSG to a respectable 165/4 in 20 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked 2/12 in his 4 overs.
Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma take the LSG bowlers to the cleaners in an emphatic display of power-hitting
However, no one would have thought the mindset with which SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma would come out to bat. They have been giving fiery starts to Sunrisers at the top and the same thing was expected, but the Head-Abhishek combo exceeded those expectations.
After a sedate 8-run first over, the dam burst as Head and Sharma began raining sixes and fours from both ends. KL Rahul was left dumbfounded at the blitzkrieg by the SRH openers. SRH’s 50 came up in just 3.1 overs and team 100 came in 5.4 overs.
Travis Head reached his fifty in 16 balls, while Abhishek reached his in 19 balls. They both continued batting, looking for boundaries, LSG captain and bowlers looked clueless.
LSG overhauled the target in just 9.4 overs with Abhishek remaining unbeaten on 75 in 28 balls with 8 fours and 6 sixes, while Travis Head made 89* in 30 balls with 8 fours and 8 sixes. With this huge win by 10 wickets and 62 balls to spare, SRH also bettered their NRR, which now stands at 0.406.
SRH also moved to the third spot in the IPL 2024 points table with 14 points form 12 games and 7 wins.
The Twitterati were lost for words at the carnage by Sunrisers Hyderabad openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, but managed to share their reactions on social media.
