"What a finish" Twitter erupts as SRH stun RR in a last-ball thriller in IPL 2024
RR still remained at the No. 1 spot in the IPL 2024 points table, while SRH moved to 4th position.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) stunned table toppers Rajasthan Royals (RR) by one run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on May 2, 2024.
Pat Cummins, the SRH captain, won the toss and decided to bat first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad. The Sunrisers’ top order struggled in this game, particularly at their home turf. Abhishek Sharma was out for 12 runs, while Anmolpreet Singh scored 5 in 5 balls as SRH fell to 35/2.
Then Travis Head (58) and Nitish Kumar Reddy contributed 96 runs for the third wicket when the Australian opener was dismissed by Avesh Khan. However, Nitish Reddy persisted and cranked up the tempo in the final few overs.
He received a much-needed boost from partner Heinrich Klaasen on the other end. Reddy hammered 76* in 42 balls, including three fours and eight sixes. Klaasen contributed 42* in 19 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. SRH added 126 runs in the last 10 overs and over 70 in the last five overs to take the final score to 201/3 in 20 overs.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar helps SRH win a last-ball thriller
Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave SRH a dream start with the ball, as removed Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson for ducks in the first over itself. Then Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag got together and added 134 runs in 78 balls for the third wicket.
Jaiswal made a brilliant 67 in 40 with 7 fours and 2 sixes, while Parag hammered 77 in 49 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes. However, both got out at the wrong time with SRH gaining some momentum. Shimron Hetmyer made 13 runs, but also got out trying to go for the glory shot, while Dhruv Jurel was out to a good catch by Abhishek Sharma.
Rovman Powell was the last hope of RR and he tried his best scoring 27 in 15 balls and taking the match to the final over. Powell managed to bring the equation from 13 needed in 6 balls to 2 off the last ball. But the wily Bhuvneshwar managed to sneak in a low full toss catching Rovman Powell in front of the stumps.
RR could only manage 200/7 and lost the game by 1 run. Twitterverse shared their reactions to a brilliant finish to an exciting game.
