USA handed Pakistan a shock defeat at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

It was a historic day for the Monank Patel-led United States of America as they defeated the Babar Azam-led Pakistan for the first time in ICC T20 World Cup history. Co-hosts won the thrilling clash by defeating Pakistan by five runs in the Super Over at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 7 (Friday).

After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, United States bowlers didn’t disappoint their skipper’s decision. The United States bowlers removed Mohammad Rizwan, Usman Khan, and Fakhar Zaman in the first powerplay. Men in Green crawled to 30/3 in the first six overs. However, skipper Babar Azam (44) and Shadab Khan (40) bailed out Men in Green of a dangerous situation.

Towards the end, Shaheen Afridi’s unbeaten knock of 23 runs helped Men in Green cross the 150-run mark. With the ball, Nosthush Kenijige took a three-wicket haul. Saurabh Netravalkar scalped two wickets. Ali Khan and Jasdeep Singh bagged one wicket each.

While chasing 160 runs, the United States lost their opener Steven Taylor for 12 runs. The co-hosts reached 44/1 in the first six overs in the second innings. Skipper Monank Patel (50) and Andries Gous (35) stitched a crucial stand of 68 runs as the co-hosts reached 111/3 in 14 overs.

However, Pakistan veteran pacer Mohammed Amir bowled a stunning 19th over, which turned the match. In the 20th over of the match, Aaron Jones (36*) and Nitish Kumar (14*) smashed 14 runs of Haris Rauf’s over, which tied the match.

In the Super Over, veteran Men in Green pacer Amir bowled very poorly as he gave away 18 runs, including seven runs in extras. The United States handed the ball to Netravalkar, who didn’t disappoint them as he stopped Men in Green to 13/1 as co-hosts won the thrilling Super Over by five runs.
