Travis Head hints at Australia's opening pair in ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Travis Head is coming off an exceptional IPL 2024 season with SRH.
Ahead of Australia’s opening match in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Travis Head has dropped a huge hint on the opening combination the Aussies are likely to use in the tournament. Australia will take on Oman on June 5 in Barbados for their first match of Group B.
Australia have three openers to choose from: David Warner, Head, and captain Mitchell Marsh. Marsh has already confirmed that he will be playing as a pure batter in the initial stage of the competition and won’t bowl due to his injury.
Both Warner and Marsh missed some games in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 due to injuries, and both were out of form with the bat as well. Head, on the other hand, was sensational in the league phase of the IPL: overall, he smashed 567 runs at a strike rate of 191. He formed a deadly opening combo with Abhishek Sharma, even though both are left-handers.
Similarly, Head is hoping to have success with Warner at the top for Australia. It would mean that Marsh would slip to number 3 in the batting order.
Me and Warner complement each other well: Travis Head
Head reckons he and Warner complement each other superbly according to their strengths.
Speaking ahead of the fixture against Omean, Travis Head touched on Australia’s opening combination and his partnerships with Warner in the past.
“Yeah. I think so. See the difference is both left-handers – but I think we complement each other well, a little bit like Abhi and myself did. So, yeah, I think looking back in the times Dave and I batted, he’s exceptional against spin in the power play,” Head said.
“More so, Abhi’s strengths were against spin and then that was, so that wasn’t hard to go by, like how we come off each other. And I think Dave and I had some really strong partnerships together, faced a lot of different plans, teams will come differently, Oman will come different to England and England will come back, come different to Namibia,” he added.
