Under Rahul Dravid, India won the Asia Cup 2023 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Former India head coach Rahul Dravid explained how even a small amount of luck played a huge role in the results of India’s last two ICC finals. Under Dravid’s tenure, India has seen the extremes of highs and lows in the last three ICC tournaments.

The Indian side lost the finals of the ICC World Test Championship and ICC ODI World Cup in 2023, both against Australia, before winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa in June in Barbados.

The Rohit Sharma-led India reached the ODI World Cup 2023 final with an unbeaten 10-match winning streak but lost the championship game to the Aussies as opener Travis Head played a match-winning knock of 137 runs.

Speaking at the CEAT Cricket Awards ceremony in Mumbai on August 21, Dravid explained that the luck factor worked against them during the ODI World Cup 2023 final by pointing out that Head survived getting bowled or edging several times.

He also mentioned how things went in India’s favour in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa even when the opposition had the upper hand.

“Sometimes at the end of the day, you need a little bit of luck. (Against South Africa in T20WC final)â€æ 30 balls to go, 30 runs to go. (It was about) incredible execution, incredible calmness by Rohit.” “We didn’t focus on what we needed to do, but we needed a guy who could keep his foot within one inch of a line. Sometimes (it is) the skill,” he said without mentioning Suryakumar Yadav’s T20 World Cup winning catch at the boundary ropes to dismiss David Miller,” Dravid said.

“(On) 19th Novemberâ€æ I remember whatever it was, we beat Travis Head’s bat 15 times – he didn’t touch a single ball. You know, things can go your way sometimes, but you have to stick to the process,” he added.
