Trent Boult took two wickets in his first over against Uganda.

Living up to his reputation as arguably the best new ball pacer in the world, New Zealand seamer Trent Boult scalped two wickets in the first over of the match against Uganda.

New Zealand and Uganda met in match number 32 of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on Friday night at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad.

The Kiwis thrashed Uganda by 9 wickets after bowling them out for only 40 runs, though this win has come too late as Kane Williamson’s side have already been knocked out from the tournament by Afghanistan and West Indies.

In what could well be the last T20 World Cup for Boult, who doesn’t hold a central contract with the New Zealand board, the left-arm speedster made his mark in the first over against Uganda, reminding the world of his prowess. He dismissed opener Simon Ssesazi via an LBW and Robinson Obuya via a bowled, both batters were gone for golden ducks.

Boult sent down a beautiful inswinger to Obuya that moved in the air into the right-hander, pitched in line with the stumps and came in just enough to beat the inside edge of Obuya’s bat. The batsman had his feet rooted as the ball was on just the perfect good length. The ball sneaked past the inside edge as Obuya played a straight drive and clattered into the stumps.

Tim Southee bagged the Man of the Match award as the veteran pacer returned with sensational figures of 4-1-4-3. Only one Uganda batsman got into double-digits, Kenneth Waiswa top-scoring with only 11 runs.
